About the Trust

The Singer Family established the charity in memory of their son Jeremy Singer, who sadly passed away in 2012 at the age of 37. The Trust promotes educational opportunities for underprivileged young people at university level. It aims to help disadvantaged students succeed in life by providing them with the resources to make the most of their time at university.

It is generally accepted that there is greater risk of mental health problems arising in disadvantaged students because they are more financially strapped. Consequently, they have difficulties in fully integrating into university activities and campus life. This support will help alleviate mental health challenges that may arise from financial limitations.

The family decided the best way to fund the trust was by holding a benefit concert featuring Jeremy's cousin, renowned pianist Evgeny Kissin. Evgeny has fond memories of Jeremy and was happy to help honour his late cousin's memory through music and raise money for a good cause.

Jeremy read History at Brasenose College and was very aware of those less fortunate than himself. He was known for his kindness, wit, and wisdom, and for mentoring others. The recipients of the bursaries will be known as ‘Jeremy Singer Scholars’ and an annual dinner will be given by the College for the present and past scholars. It is hoped that former scholars will contribute to the fund later in life.

The goal is for Jeremy Singer Scholars to gain the same enriching university experience that Jeremy had.

“The College is delighted to have the opportunity to host and administer the transformational scholarships proposed by the Jeremy Singer Charitable Trust. Awarded each year to some of the brightest of our students who come with limited family financial support, the Jeremy Singer Scholarships will enable those students to pursue their studies freed from the grinding financial concerns which can limit opportunity. We are focused on educating those with the greatest potential regardless of circumstance and these scholarships will help us to deliver that.”
